Buyers put down roots in Lyndhurst

Category Industry News

Lyndhurst's large stands and affordability have made it a major drawcard for young couples and professionals looking to put down roots.

Recent Lightstone figures show that 53% of recent buyers in the area are between the ages of 18 and 35.

According to Adrienne Hersch Properties area specialists, Gregory Isaacman and Lorraine Veco, young families are attracted to the suburb's well-sized homes and big gardens at affordable price tags.

"Lyndhurst is a peaceful and quiet established suburb ideal for young families looking to settle down.  Buyers are also able to get far more for their money in comparison with  neighbouring suburbs of Glenhazel and Sunningdale."

The pair say that there are mainly freestanding homes available in the area, however there are a few sought-after sectional-title complexes for buyers seeking a smaller, lock-up-and-go lifestyle.

Greg says another drawcard is the area's easily accessible location.

"Lyndhurst is centrally located close to major transport routes, OR Tambo International airport, a number of good schools including Eden College, Glenhazel Primary School, Future Nation Schools Lyndhurst, Holy Rosary, Sandringham High School, King David Linksfield, Reddam House Bedfordview and Yeshiva College, top amenities including Balfour Park Shopping Centre and Greenstone Mall, and places of worship."

Lorraine says an added bonus is that many of these homes also come with excellent features such as spacious bedrooms, swimming pools, fireplaces, boreholes and staff accommodation.

The average stand size in the area is 1487sqm. Buyers can expect to pay between R1.4 million and R1.9 million for a three-bedroom house. A four-bedroom house starts at R1.9 million and can sell for up to at R2.2 million. A sectional-title three-bedroom townhouse sells for between R700 000 and R1.3 million.

Last year, the suburb was listed as one of the top five investment-grade suburbs in the Greater Johannesburg area in a survey conducted by TPN.
